Saint Emilion - a jewel with unexpected pleasures

We spent the day in and around Saint Emilion (named after a hermit monk - not really something I aspire to, but he has magnificent town named after him and I don't!), which is 30 kms from Bordeaux - in the heart of one of the finest wine producing areas in the world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, which dates back to Roman times, and it is medieval and magnificent.

We expected, and sampled great wines, but what we didn't know is that it is also a capital of another great French delicacy, the macaron!

After a lunch of local cheese and (of course) red wine, we had a great time visiting the City and, in the afternoon, cycling through the valleys and vineyards surrounding it.

Jacky, our cheese-man - who loves Ginette Reno.

Serge and lunch, a la Saint Emilion

Photo of me by Serge - no selfies on a bike!

Me again - it obviously my blog.
